EDO STATE GOVERNOR MUST HAVE SO SOON FORGOTTEN - RENO OMOKRI

On July 17, 2012, a recently re-elected Governor Adams Oshiomhole visited the Aso Rock Presidential Villa and on his way out he had a chat with State House Correspondents and said as follows “what the Edo election has confirmed is that when the President and Commander-in-Chief puts the country first and conducts himself as a statesman, not just as a party leader, credible elections are possible, because people were apprehensive that the Nigerian Army could be misused. But of course, I told them I didn’t think they were right, but the President’s clear directive was that the votes must count.

FOUR NATIONS TOURNAMENT - GOLDEN EAGLETS FACE KOREA


The U-17 National Team, Golden Eaglets, will play hosts Korea Republic in their first match at the 4-Nation Suwon International Tournament, on Wednesday next week.

Arrangements have been finalized by the Nigeria Football Federation  for the Golden Eaglets to depart for Korea on Sunday for the 4-Nation invitational competition which  was shifted  in July due to the outbreak of MERS in the Far East.
Hosts Korea Republic would be joined by Brazil, Croatia and Nigeria, and the teams will play one other in a round-robin basis between September 2 and 6 to determine the tournament winners.

EX-HAMPHIRE PREP STUDENT NOT GUILTY OF RAPE

Former student of an elite New Hampshire prep school was found not guilty of rape Friday 28 August, 2015 after testifying on Wednesday that he had a consensual sexual encounter with his 15-year-old accuser that stopped short of intercourse. The Ex elite prep student was charged for  raping a 15years old girl days before graduation last year.
Owen Labrie 19, was found not guilty of three felony count, but guilty of lesser misdemeanor counts of having sex with a person under the age of consent.
The case has cast harsh spotlight on New Hampshire Prep School.

Two Virginia Journalist Shot dead

(Reuters) - Two television journalists were shot and killed in Virginia on Wednesday morning while conducting a live television interview, their station, WDBJ7 said. The incident occurred during a live broadcast in Bedford County, when shots could be heard, sending the reporter and her source screaming and ducking for cover. The station said that journalists Alison Parker and Adam Ward died in the incident.

NDDC management summoned over contract-splitting - Buhari

ABUJA — Worried by alleged mismanagement of funds of the commission running into billions of Naira, the Presidency has summoned the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to answer questions on the true financial status of the agency.
Competent sources confirmed to Vanguard that the President would meet the management team of the NDDC and take them up on many issues relating to the management of the resources of  the commission since the new board came on board in December 2013.

Buhari, according to sources close to his office, is furious that the management has allowed influential politicians to hijack the agency and made away with billions of Naira under the guise of executing contracts with little or no result on the ground to show for such money.
It was learnt that the President would seek answers to why the commission refused to adhere to due process in the award of major contracts valued at billions of Naira, preferring instead to split them in violation of the Public Procurement Act.

OBASANJO NIGERIA DIPLOMATIC AGENT TO GUINEA BISSAU

President, Muhammadu Buhari, has sent former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, as his Special Envoy, to mediate and help find a solution to current challenge of the West African nation.

Following the dismissal of Guinea Bissau’s Prime Minister, Mr Domingos Simoes Pereira and his cabinet by President Jose Mario Vaz, President Buhari had raised concern over the unfolding political situation in the country.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Buhari, Femi Adesina, former President Obasanjo embarked on the first leg of his mission by consulting with the current Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Macky Sall of Senegal in Dakar on Thursday.
“It is regrettable that while Chief Obasanjo was still consulting with President Sall, President Jose Mario Vaz of Guinea Bissau proceeded to appoint and swear-in a new Prime Minister in the person of Mr Baciro Dja, a development that has worsened the political situation in his country,” President Buhari said

SUPER EAGLES HEAD COACH INVITES 18 FOREIGN BASED PLAYERS

Super Eagles’ Head Coach Sunday Oliseh has invited 18 overseas-based professionals for next month’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam.
Eagles' first –choice goalkeeper and skipper Vincent Enyeama headlines the list that also has defenders Godfrey Oboabona, Leon Balogun and Kenneth Omeruo, midfielders Rabiu Ibrahim, Lukman Haruna and Joel Obi, and forwards Ahmed Musa, Emmanuel Emenike and Anthony Ujah.
There are a number of surprises, in line with Oliseh’s earlier pledge to make current form and first –level football key indices for selection to the Super Eagles.
There are goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, midfielder Izunna Ernest Uzochukwu and forwards Emem Eduok, Sylvester Igboun and Moses Simon.
All the 18 players, who will join up with the 23 home boys who arrived camp in Abuja on Monday, are expected in Abuja on Monday, 31st August, 2015 at the latest.
The Super Eagles take on Tanzania in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, September 5.
