It is not totally out of place in Africa pronouncing someone's death while they are alive. This is usually ascribed to an acts of desperation in order to gain:

This perhaps is the case of Abbey Elias, popularly known as Skiibii, a Nigerian artist who was purportedly pronounced dead in the early hour of today, Friday, 14 August 2015.
Many have argued that the twenty-two years old seeks fame, many asserted that he is engage in longevity and/or money ritual.
Others believed the young Nigerian's musician just want more followers on his social media.
The reason for this kind of stunt can't be ascertained now as some close pally of the artist claim that Skiibii slumped due to some undisclosed health condition, but couldn't get help immediately.
